TIP National Board of Directors Members Bio’s


Ms. Rose Hancock, Chairperson

Ms. Rose Hancock was a TIP volunteer for two years in the late 1990's and says "TIP volunteering has been the most challenging thing I.ve done." Rose has 25 years of marketing, client relations and event planning experience, including projects for many Fortune 500 companies. After leaving corporate America for a four-year sailing sabbatical, Rose washed ashore in Laguna Beach, CA where she quickly became embedded in the community.

Mr. Bob Calhoun, Vice Chair
 

Mr. Bob Calhoun is a retired fire captain with the Vista, CA Fire Department where he worked for thirty years. Bob was instrumental in the success of TIP in the Vista Fire Department and in helping TIP expand to other cities in San Diego County. He says that as a fire captain "I was trying to TIP before TIP came along." Bob has served as a board member since the organization became a non profit in 1989. He spends his time collecting guns and working with wood. He is currently remodeling his home. Bob lives in the desert with his wife, Deane. They enjoy traveling, especially in the summer when the temperature where they live reaches 115 degrees.


Mr. Wayne Fortin, Founder and CEO

Mr. Wayne Fortin is a licensed mental health professional who has worked in the community mental health field for over 30 years. In 1985, he founded Trauma Intervention Programs, Inc. dedicated to providing immediate support to those emotionally traumatized by crisis events. Today, Wayne continues to lead TIP Inc. He oversees 20 Affiliates and he travels extensively assisting local communities establish TIP Affiliates. Wayne spends his personal time traveling with his wife, Deanna, reading, cooking and walking his dog, Sherlock.

 

Dr. William Holder, Finance Committee Chair

  Dr. William Holder has had a long and distinguished career in academia. He is the dean of the USC Leventhal School of Accounting. Dr. Holder is an expert on financial accounting and auditing. In 2006, he received the Gold Medal for Distinguished Service, the highest award given by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. Bill lives in Newport Beach and spends his free time boating and fishing.

 

 

 

Mr. John Quinn, Secretary
 

Mr. John Quinn is an attorney with the San Diego law firm of Drucker Spradling Metzger and Wynne. He is also a principal with JMN Associates Consulting. John has been a board member since 2003 and he has been a consultant to TIP staff and board members since the founding of the organization. John serves on the TIP Board because TIP serves a definite community need in an effective manner. He says "The TIP program demonstrates the best of a community . . . people helping their neighbors." John is married to Linda and has 2 children. He enjoys sports, cooking and reading.
 

Mr. John Charles, Chair, Nominating Committee
 

Mr. John Charles is a retired senior executive with SmithKline Beecham Clinical Laboratories. He holds a degree in Medical Technology. John is presently the Director of Media and Public Relations for Crystal Cathedral Ministries in Garden Grove, CA. He knows TIP "close up" because he is the proud spouse of a passionate and devoted TIP volunteer who has served TIP for 8 ½ years. John believes "TIP fills a very needed and emotional gap. Which is found in everyday tragedies that happen to everybody." John lives in Laguna Beach, CA with his wife, Freddie, and enjoys travel, photography and good food.
 

 Irwin Bornstein, Member at Large

 

Mr Bornstein has over 20 years experience as an Administrator in local goverment, most recently serving as the Assistant City Manager in the City of Mission Viejo, He is a CPA and has an MBA from Stanford University.


Mr. Nick Terpstra, Member at Large


Mr. Nick Terpstra retired on January 1, 2004 after 43 years in the public accounting profession. During those years Nick provided quality tax and accounting services for numerous individuals and businesses. His tax and accounting experience includes six years with the national "Big Six" accounting firms and over 27 years experience as owner and manager of an accounting practice in Orange County, CA. Nick is a California licensed real estate broker who is expanding his real estate portfolio by purchasing quality residential, office and individual properties. Nick lives in Orange, CA with his wife Joni who is a TIP volunteer.

 

 

Mr. John Simpson, Member at Large
 

Mr. John Simpson holds a MBA in Marketing and Organizational Development. He has over 30 years of diverse business experience. John has been the CFO for a $750 million dollar business and the Director of Corporate Planning for a $3 billion dollar business. He has extensive executive sales management experience including for an international sales organization focused on Europe, Asia and Latin America. John has served on many nonprofit boards over the years. He lives with his wife, Debbie, in Southern California and in his free time he enjoys golfing, gardening and watching or attending sporting events.



Ken Ryan, Member at Large

Ken Ryan is an Urban Planner with KTGY, a full service architectural and planning firm with offices in California and Colorado. Ken oversees KTGY’s Community Planning and Urban Design studios. Ken has a long history of public service including as a councilmember and mayor of the City of Yorba Linda, CA. He brings his knowledge and experiences of politics and government to the TIP Board of Directors. Before being elected to the TIP Board of Directors Ken served on the Orange County TIP Advisory Committee for over 10 years.

 

Douglas S. Harrington, M.D., Member at Large


Douglas Harrington, M.D., has served as the Chief Executive Officer of Specialty Laboratories, Inc., a laboratory services provider, since 2002. He is a Director at both Specialty Laboratories Inc and Chronic Vision Medical Systems, a medical device imaging company. Dr. Harrington is a clinical professor pathology and laboratory medicine at the University of South California. He received his M.D. from the University of Colorado and is board certified in anatomic and clinical pathology and hematology.

 

Mr. Joey DePinto, Member at Large
 

Joey DePinto has been in the entertainment business since the age of 13 in New York where he started as a musician. Today he owns the film company, Three Kings Entertainment. Mr. DePinto served in Vietnam as an officer with the Assault Helicopter Group. He was awarded the Purple Heart for his service.
