Elly Harris was a TIP Volunteer for
10 years before becoming the Crisis Team Manager of the East
County Team of the San Diego Affiliate in January 2008. Elly
says that she loves TIP and loves her job as Crisis Team
Manager. “Working
with TIP gives me great satisfaction. I really like the idea
of being able to make someone's life better by being with
them after a tragedy strikes," she says. Elly's favorite
part of being a TIP Crisis Team Manager is that it gives her
an opportunity to relate to TIP Volunteers in a personal
way. "I really like
debriefing TIP Volunteers after TIP Calls and providing them
with an opportunity to express themselves about how the call
went," she says. Her major frustration as a Crisis Team
Manager is when a tragedy occurs in the community and
emergency responders don't call for TIP. Elly says
that the role in TIP she aspires to is being a TIP National
Trainer. She looks forward to sharing her TIP experience
with others.
Elly is very proud of her East County Team. There are
currently 23 volunteers who respond to an average of 30
calls per month. Her
team serves 6 cities and far flung unincorporated areas.Although
Elly describes herself as a "simple person," she has a full
life outside of TIP. She lives in a rural area on 10 acres
with her husband and her cat. She loves scrap booking,
baking and watching her husband participate in monster truck
races.
According to TIP Founder Wayne
Fortin, Elly Harris epitomizes what the TIP
organization is all about. “We are very fortunate to have
Elly as part of our leadership team," said Fortin. “Elly is
experienced, committed and everything you would want a TIP
Leader to be," he said.
